If you’re an Avid editor who likes him some ScriptSync, or likes her some PhraseFind, but you’re not working on Avid, look no further than Boris Soundbite. It’s literally the same thing as PhraseFind, but for Final Cut Pro. It’s powered by the same Nexidia phonetic recognition engine, and for thirty days after it’s released (soon, check www.borisfx.com/Soundbite for more info.), it’s only $299. After a month it goes up $200. Now, if I hadn’t been given a copy of this software to put this demo video together, I would buy it day one... no question. And it’s not because I got paid to say that, which I didn’t. It’s just now that I’ve used it, I don’t see any reason to do without such a useful tool.

How they gonna keep ‘em down in the Suite once they’ve seen Soundbite?

Yes, it’s a brand new world for FCP editors, but instead of having to translate their skills from FCP to Avid or Premiere, we now have to translate our FCP skills to FCP; version X that is. This is the service I provided for my recent webinar for FilmmakingWebinars.com. The webinar was well received by 560 or so participants, as I shared various tips and tricks for translating FCP 7 skills to FCP X.

If you missed the webinar, you can get the On-Demand Version for only $15 at FilmmakingWebinars.com. For $25 you can get the version with bonus materials. In addition to a bonus lesson on sharing projects and relinking media between systems, you also get a handy little set of applications that allow you to switch between Final Cut Studio 3 apps and FCP X apps using the Best Practices suggested by Apple if you are going to run both sets on the same system, as well as an interview with me, and a sample of the FCP 7 to FCP X Conversion Matrix eBook (an interface, command and keyboard shortcuts translation), which can be purchased for only $5.00 at their Online Store.

This Conversion document translates all the functions you know and love in FCP 7 to their FCP X counterparts, as well as showing related new features in FCP X that don’t have analogues in FCP 7. It works quite well as an eBook in iBooks for iPhone or iPad, and has a hyperlinked Table of Contents and can be searched for easily finding what you’re looking for.
